THIS WEEK IN 1908. This is what State Street looked like in 1908. It was an important year in State Street history. In 1908 the Aldermen of Chicago declared Madison and State the center of Chicago and renumbered all the addresses in the city.GREAT NICKNAMES
This week we feature a man who was called "Citation." He may not have been the greatest baseball player, but he was probably the most impressive American to ever put on a Chicago Cubs uniform.

TALES FROM A BAD CENTURY. This week we tell the tale of Eddie Waitkus. Eddie was a pretty good first baseman with the Cubs, but it was what happened to him off the field that is still remembered today. It inspired the book and movie "The Natural."
Coming up later this week...
On Friday, SIGHTS AND SOUNDS will feature one of the oldest pieces of video from our collection...A Flag Day celebration at Wrigley in 1930, and a home movie of the 1929 World Series. We've also got lots of clips from the movie Eddie Waitkus inspired. Also, be sure to check out this week's JOBC Fan of the Week.
