Our last bastion of non-political talk radio is about to go away.
Cincinnati's Mike McConnell will be joining the WGN radio lineup on August 9th.
No word yet on what time slot he's getting, but it looks like John Williams and Steve Cochran are on the way out. Another right wing talker, Bill Cunningham, is about to be named to the lineup too (according to the rumors coming from Cinci--he's from the same station as McConnell.)
This is terrible, terrible news.
The last thing this city needs is another right-wing talk radio station. We've already got two doing it full-time (WLS and WIND). And this isn't any old station either. It's WGN. If you're a Cubs fan, you have to listen to WGN at least some of the time. The games can be painful enough. You don't need to hear shrill rip jobs of liberals in twenty second promos during the game to make it even more unpleasant.
I know that's painting with a broad brush, and I know that I haven't heard either of their shows--which makes the criticism a little unfair, but I also know people that live in Cincinnati, and here's the description they gave me of each man's show: Same old tired unpleasant anti-liberal rage.
