I watched the Jon Stewart interview on Rachel Maddow's show last night on MSNBC. Boy was that hard to watch. I'm not linking to it today because I don't recommend it. It was defensive (on both sides) and preachy (on both sides) and while I know even comedians are allowed to be serious, I'm not used to watching Jon Stewart being that serious.
The one thing I like about both Maddow and Stewart is that they seemingly don't take themselves too seriously--they seem to have an internal BS detector that keeps them humble and real. For one hour last night, both of them forgot to turn that detector on. I'm not sure if we saw the real people last night (Stewart, in particular, was a little full of himself), or if this was just a bad night for both of them.
I know Stewart was sick, and that may have played a part in it, but he seemed needlessly combative at times refusing to concede things that he has said in the past. And Rachel seemed too deferential to him--especially when he was doing that.
Very strange. Very disappointing.
