Chili Dog MVP

=Chili Dog MVP authors David Fletcher and John Owens had a memorable weekend. They spent Saturday at Comiskey Park with Dick Allen's family. The White Sox honored Dick's upcoming induction into the Hall of Fame with Dick Allen Bobblehead Night!

=Eckhartz Press author and Late Night Catechism playwright Vicki Quade is celebrating the 32nd anniversary of her legendary play. Late Nite Catechism is having its anniversary performance on Sunday, June 1, at iO Theater, 1501 N Kingsbury St, Chicago. This is a joint production of Nuns4Fun Entertainment and Malarkey Comedy, Home of ComedySportz Chicago. In addition, the comedy will kick-off its fall season at iO with back-to-school, September, Sunday matinees. Performances will be at 1 p.m. on September 7-14-21-28.
=Of course, Vicki's book is still available at Eckhartz Press. Close Encounters of a Chicago Kind is a great example of Vicki's stories, examining the lives that brush past her on city streets, in banks, at the grocery store or in restaurants. With a sharp wit and empathetic skill, Quade colorfully recreates brief scenarios that range from the comic to the bizarre to the dangerous – and all are unique to the spirit of the Windy City.

Nose Over Toes

=This week in 2019, Janet Sutherland appeared on the Radio Health Journal, a program that is syndicated to over 500 radio stations in America. That's her with the show's executive producer, Reed Pence.

=Make a note, Janet is doing an appearance promoting her children's book as part of the "Story Time" series at M and Em's in Burr Ridge. You'll even get a chance to meet the star of the book, her little Corgi Rhett. The event is on July 11th at 10:30am.

=This week in 1976 one of the most memorable moments in John Landecker's book Records Truly is My Middle Name occurred. John and his friend John Travolta appeared at Woodfield Mall expecting to encounter a few hundred fans. Instead there were 20,000+.

=This week in 1976, terrorist Ulrike Meinhof was found  hanged in her prison cell. That event was woven into the pages of Back in the DDR. Rick featured that excerpt on his blog.


Behind the Glass

=The late NFL great Johnny Unitas would have been celebrating a birthday this week (May 7). He gets a full chapter in Randy Merkin's book Behind the Glass.


Your Dime My Dance Floor

=Chet Coppock often entertained counter-intuitive positions about the sports heroes of his lifetime. Sonny Liston (born May 8) was one of them. Liston was considered a villain in his day, but Chet always rooted for him. He explains the reasons why in Your Dime My Dance Floor.

=This week in 2016, we released Rantings of a Bitter Childless Woman by Jeanne BellezzoHere's a Q&A with the author the week the book came out.


Turn it Up

=This week in 2017, we signed author Bob Shannon (photo). He wrote the book Turn it Up for us. One of the chapters is about this week's birthday boy, the legendary announcer Gary Owens (May 10).


The Balding Handbook

=This week in 1977 was very important in the history of the combover. The Balding Handbook chronicled this momentous event. The book is no longer in print, but this free excerpt lives on.
