He owned the Cubs during the 1920s and early 1930s, and before he died, he made his son promise that he would never sell the team. His boy, Phillip, didn't. Many Cubs fans of the 50s, 60s and 70s regretted that small little gesture.
The Cubs didn't leave Wrigley control until 1981, four years after Phillip's death.
