The Piers Morgan Petition

I don't know if you've been following this story about CNN's Piers Morgan and gun enthusiasts who filed an official White House petition to have him deported for not supporting the Second Amendment.

You probably saw that famous blow up on the air between Morgan and the author of the petition the other day. I'm not posting it here because it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I'm not even writing Crazy McTemplethrob's real name because he's not worthy of it. (And I don't even like Piers Morgan...I can't imagine being on his side of any other argument)

Well, because the petition did reach the 100,000 signatures level, the White House has been forced to officially comment. They did that yesterday. Here it is...
"Let’s not let arguments over the Constitution’s Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First. President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press — fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy. Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously, but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment — or any other matter of public concern."
Sounds about right to me.
