April 14, 1969…The Beatles' song "The Ballad Of John And Yoko" was recorded by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Paul played bass, drums and piano; John played guitars and sang the lead vocal. At the time, George Harrison was on vacation abroad and Ringo Starr was filming "The Magic Christian." The song was banned by many radio stations as being blasphemous. At some stations, the word "Christ" was edited in backwards or replaced by a guitar note to avoid the ban. Your editor worked at a station (WKNR-Detroit) that did the latter.
