The Koch Brothers, who spend hundreds of millions of dollars to promote conservative causes through "think tanks" designed to influence media coverage, are looking into buying the Chicago Tribune and a handful of other Tribune-owned newspapers.
Why spend millions trying to convince the media? Eliminate the middle man. Become the media.
