When I was a boy, The Sporting News was the gold standard in baseball reporting. When they named their Sporting News All-Star team at the end of the season it always sparked spirited debate on the playground of my school.

It's no secret that the company has been struggling for years, but they announced yesterday that the end of 2012 officially marks the end of their print edition.
