Kennedy Center Honors

Breaking new ground with this year's nominees. The first TV show to be honored. From Deadline...

Sesame Street, actress Sally Field, singer Linda Ronstadt, R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire and conductor and San Francisco Symphony co-founder Michael Tilson Thomas have been named the 2019 recipients of the 42nd annual Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements.

I think we can all agree on Sesame Street, right? Let me know if that has also become a political football.

Club 400

I accompanied Eckhartz Press authors Randy Richardson and Becky Sarwate Maxwell last night to Club 400 in Lake in the Hills for a Cubs party. It was incredible. They raised six figures for charity, and I got to meet Willson Contreras, Carlos Zambrano, and more. Thanks so much to our host Stewart, and we hope the 200+ people who went home with copies of "Cubsessions" really enjoy the book.

RIP Ernie Broglio

Sad news. Former Cub Ernie Broglio has passed away at the age of 83. Here's his updated entry in #everycubever...

~Ernie Broglio 1935--2019 (Cubs 1964-1967)
It’s too bad that Broglio’s name has become a punchline. He was actually a pretty good pitcher before the Cubs traded Lou Brock to get him. Broglio was a former 20-game winner and was coming off an 18-win year, but he was not happy to be traded to the Cubs. He never liked the day games because he felt the batters could see the ball better, and though he didn’t tell anyone, he was beginning to get arm problems. He won four games with the Cubs the second half of 1964, but his elbow blew up on him, and he won only three more games over the next two full years.

Last night the Cubs wore their 1969 throw back jerseys. Because their numbers are retired, nobody on the Cubs wore the numbers of 1969 Cubs Ernie, Billy, Fergie or Ron last night. Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens passed away yesterday. Here is his entry from our extended JOBC edition of everycubever...

~Justice John Paul Stevens (Cubs fan 1920-2019)
He was a moderate Republican when he was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Gerald R. Ford in 1975, and was later considered the most liberal member of the Supreme Court, but Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens had other interests besides the law and politics. Namely Baseball. More specifically; Cubs baseball. Judge Stevens was born in Chicago in 1920. His father built the famous Stevens Hotel (which is now the Hilton), and John and his brothers posed as models for the bronze sculptures by the grand stairway. In 1932 at the age of 12, Stevens, who had become a huge Chicago Cubs fan, remembers sitting at Wrigley Field and watching Babe Ruth, in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the World Series, gesturing with his bat toward center field and hitting his famous “called shot” home run. He went to college in Chicago, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago in 1941. During those years, he was a frequent visitor to Wrigley Field. During the 1950s and 1960s while he practiced law in Chicago, he continued to follow his favorite team. Starting in 1975, however, after becoming a Supreme Court Justice, his visits to Chicago became less frequent. After retiring from the court, he lived in Washington & Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. But every now and then, he still stopped by the favorite place of his youth. In 2005, at age 85, he threw the first pitch at a Cubs-Reds game at Wrigley Field and got it right over the plate. From this morning's RAMP Newsletter...

RAMP has learned that Kimmie Caruba has exited her evening on-air position at Entercom Country WUSN (US 99)/Chicago after nearly three years, the result of corporate restructuring.

We have also confirmed that US 99 APD/MD Marci Braun will now annex the care and feeding of the US99 night show. A staff memo from PD Kenny Jay read, in part, "I'm excited that our very own Marci Braun will step into the evening on-air position at US99. She brings unmatched knowledge of the music, artists and Chicago to the table every day and now we will share it with our listeners on a consistent basis."

Caruba returned to her hometown of Chicago in Sept. 2016 to do nights on US99, earning the transfer and serious market bump up from then CBS Radio Phoenix, where she did nights on Country cousin KMLE and middays on Top 40 KALV (Live 101.5). Earlier career stops include Burlington, VT and Syracuse, NY. Caruba began her radio career at iHeartMedia Top 40 WKSC (Kiss FM)/Chicago interning for Fred & Angi twice.

"I had a dream of doing radio in my hometown & I still can’t believe that I actually lived that dream the past few years," Caruba tells RAMP. "I'm excited for the possibilities of what could come next!"

Tony Lossano, the prolific producer of radio shows and podcasts, is going back to his roots. Starting Monday he’ll relaunch “Nude Hippo: The Podcast.” Ryan Chiaverini of “Windy City Live” will be Lossano’s first guest for the new series of one-on-one interviews. The new format is billed as “more intimate and memorable” than his previous broadcast ventures, including “Nude Hippo: Your Chicago Show” and “Lossano and Friends!” Lossano should have no trouble lining up guests. Over the years, he’s been a producer for such radio legends as Dick Biondi, John Records Landecker, Bob Sirott, Robert Murphy and Melissa Forman.

Stone Cold Racist

I've known it since the birther years, and had it absolutely confirmed when he said there were "very fine people" among the torch-wielding Nazis who chanted "Jews will not replace us", but all doubt had to be removed even from his blind followers after he tweeted this yesterday...

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” he tweeted. “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.”

The Congresswomen he was tweeting about were all brown-skinned. Three of them were born in America. The president is a stone-cold racist. Period. End of discussion.
