Just One Bad Century--May 12

I didn't get a chance to see any of the Cubs games this weekend, but I just read that they were swept in Atlanta, and that Samardzija lost another shutout. Don't think I need to read more.

Today at JOBC, we go back to two big moments in Wrigley history. A no-hitter was pitched on this day in 1955, and it was a wild one. That story can be found at Today in Wrigley History. Also, on this day in 1970, Mr. Cub hit his 500th homer. The A/V club has the video.

This Week in 1945 was posted over the weekend. Chicago celebrated Mother's Day, Phil Cavarretta led an incredible comeback, American generals began coming home from Europe, and more.

Today's Historical Event is Harry Blackmun being confirmed to the Supreme Court. Where were the Cubs?

Today's Cubs birthdays include the ace of the 1945 Cubs, a starter from the 1998 playoff team, a man nicknamed Bird Eye, a member of the first Cubs team to play at Wrigley, and cups of coffee from the 60s and just a few years ago.
