April 9—Mark Pellegrino birthday

=He was in The Great Lebowski, a subject that naturally came up in this interview. 

April 9, 2021—Them episode featuring Gene Silvers airs

=We talked to the actor who played a terrifying role in the show. 

April 10, 1972—Fred Karger crashes the Oscars

=He actually did it twice. He told us about both times.  

April 10—Steven Seagal birthday

=Actress Carmen Serano (Breaking Bad) worked with Seagal in a movie, and trust us, it's a memorable story. 

April 11, 1976—Tubes song “Don’t Touch Me There” released

="The smell of burning leather" is a line in the song. Fee Waybill explains it to us. 

April 12—Scott Turow birthday

=Ho Hum, just a worldwide best-selling author shooting the shit with Rick and Dave.  

April 12—David Letterman birthday. 

=Tom Dreesen told us the backstory of his life-long friendship with Dave. 

April 12—David Cassidy birthday

=Danny Bonaduce told us about his former co-star. 

April 13, 1990—Rico Suave peaks at #7

=Gerardo talked to us about those heady days.  

April 13—Scrabble Day 

=Who better to interview than Scrablyon director Scott Petersen? 

April 13—Bob Stroud birthday

=On the eve of his radio retirement, we talked to him about his outstanding career.

March 24--Lara Flynn Boyle birthday. I told the story of my brush with her on this episode of Minutia Men.  

March 24, 1975--Grand Funk Railroad released "Bad Time". Mark Farner told us the sad story behind the lyrics to that song in this interview.

March 25—Elton John birthday. Jim Peterik told us the story of the first time he heard Elton on the radio and how it changed his life. May Pang told us about Elton & John Lennon appearing together at Madison Square Garden.

March 25--Paul Michael Glaser birthday. We had the original Starsky on the show and geeked out on our adolescent love of his show. 

March 25, 1976—Tubes released “Don’t Touch Me There”. Fee Waybill told us the story behind that naughty song.  

March 27, 1973—Fred Karger crashes the Oscars…again! He told us how he pulled it off.

March 27, 1987--The Bold & the Beautiful debuted. Maitland Ward, now an adult film star, got her acting start on the soap opera. Dave and I have never researched an interview more than this one with Maitland. 

March 28--John Landecker birthday. He's been on our show at least three times. Part One. Part Two. Part Three. 

March 28, 1971—Final Ed Sullivan show airs. Carl Giammarese’s Ed Sullivan story

March 29, 1996—Debut of “Baby Boomer”. I wrote this song for Landecker & the Legends the day John Landecker received his first AARP card. Will we play it on this week's show?

March 30, 2023—Cubs Flicks debuts on Marquee. It was opening day, and "Writer Rick Kaempfer" was introduced by Pat Hughes in this documentary to tell stories about Cubs history.  

March 30--Fred Winston birthday. We had the WLS great on the show to talk about his impressive career.

=Jim Peterik called us on the thirtieth anniversary of the song.

=Mr. Chicago History, Robert Loerzel, told us some truly memorable Chicago history stories. We also interviewed former presidential candidate Fred Karger, and he made fun of our Chicago accents in this episode.

*March 4, 1791--Vermont becomes a state

=Frasier star Dan Butler (Bulldog) explained to us why he lives in Vermont instead of Hollywood.

*March 5, 1983--The Slugs were founded

=We interviewed their guitarist Dag Juhlin about his first band The Slugs. Dag later joined Poi Dog Pondering and now co-hosts the Steve Dahl podcast. (That's Dag and Rick below)

*March 5--Penn Gillette birthday

=In this episode of Minutia Men, I told the story of my brush with Penn.

*March 5, 2004—Starsky and Hutch (the movie) was released 

=We interviewed the original Starsky, who also had a cameo in the movie, Paul Michael Glaser. 

*March 6, 2018—The Loop signs off

=The day after the radio station WLUP ceased to be the Loop, WGN asked me to explain the significance of that day.  

*March 7—Bryan Cranston birthday

=We spoke to a woman who produced his show on Broadway, Sainty Nelson. She told us what it was like to work with the Breaking Bad star. 

*March 7, 2011—Harry Teinowitz arrested for DUI

=Sometimes bad events can lead to good outcomes. Harry got sober, and co-wrote a play about his sobriety, which led to a Jeff Award nomination. We caught up with Harry on the eve of his play's debut.  

*March 8—Franklyn McCormack birthday

=McCormack was a silky-smooth WGN late night announcer in the 60s and 70s. Rich King saw a much different side of him, and told us all about that in this episode of Minutia Men Celebrity Interview.  

*March 8, 1996--Fargo was released in the theaters

=We spoke to actress Michelle Hutchinson, who played one of the hookers in that film.

March 8, 1974—Last episode of the Brady Bunch airs on ABC-TV

=They blamed the demise of the show on the arrival of Cousin Oliver. Oliver is all grown up now, and we talked to him (actor Robbie Rist) about that pressure, and some other more adult topics.

March 8—International Woman’s Day. 

=Is there a better example of feminism in the world than She-Shed Sheryl? The answer is no, and we were lucky enough to interview the Chicago actress in this episode of Minutia Men.

*January 3, 1998—Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me debuts. Dave and I had the opportunity to interview the voice of that fine NPR program, Bill Kurtis.

*January 3, 2012—Republican Iowa Caucuses were held. Among the candidates was the first openly gay man to run for President, Fred Karger. He told Dave and I that fascinating story. 

January 3—Birthday of Sir George Martin. I had the honor of interviewing the late Beatles producer back in 1996. We played the audio of that memorably embarrassing interview on this episode.

*January 5, 2021—Gabby’s Dollhouse debuts. If you have a little girl, you know that show. Dave and I chatted with the voice-over star, Sainty Nelson, who portrays the character Pillow Cat. 

*January 6 is Anthony Scaramucci's birthday. We interviewed him twice. The first time he was still in Trump's orbit. The second time he was not. See if you can tell a difference in his attitude. 

January 6, 1973—Schoolhouse Rock debuts on ABC. One of the singers from that series was Essra Mohawk. We chatted with her about five years ago and she has some great stories.  

And finally...this week in 1878, a frequent topic of discussion on Free Kicks, Everton F.C. was founded. Happy birthday/anniversary to the Blues in Liverpool.
