October 6, 1938—Old Diz’ Last Stand

=Dizzy Dean was a bust as a Cub, except for his one last special outing in the 1938 World Series. We have the audio.

October 6—Valerio De Los Santos birthday. 

=He is the pitcher who beaned Adam Greenberg, ending his career. When we talked to Adam, he told us the follow up story. 

October 6, 1978—Release of Midnight Express (movie)

=The author of the book, Billy Hayes, has appeared as a guest on Minutia Men Celebrity Interview.  

 

October 7--Birthday of John Mellencamp

=We talked to a good friend of his from his pre-fame days, fellow musician Essra Mohawk, and she told us what he was like in those days.  

October 7--Jose Cardenal birthday

=Yes, Rick met him. Yes, it is a memorable and quirky story. 

October 7, 1935—Cubs lose Game 6 of World Series

=We have the audio of the last out.

October 7, 1981—Loverboy’s Get Lucky album released

=Loverboy lead singer Mike Reno told us the story if that album. : 

October 7, 1996—Fox News debuts. 

=We asked political writer Judd Legum if Fox News has broken America. (Spoiler alert: They did)

 

October 8, 2015—Kyle Schwarber roofs one versus Cardinals in playoffs

=We don't have audio, but we do have a photograph of Rick and son Sean there that day.

October 8--Chevy Chase birthday

=Rick has an unpleasant story about his encounter with Chevy.  

 

October 9—Birthday of John Lennon. 

=We interviewed his girlfriend from his lost weekend, May Pang 

October 9—Joe Pepitone birthday 

=His former teammate Carmen Fanzone told us a great story about Joe.  )

October 9, 2016—Ken Bone becomes famous at presidential debate. 

=Remember the guy in the red sweater? We talked to him. 

 

October 10, 1889—Brentford was founded 

=Just another excuse/reminder to tune into Free Kicks with Adam and Rick.

October 10--Bradley Whitford birthday

=Would you believe that we talked to him while he was taking a shower? It's true. 

October 10--David Lee Roth story birthday

=Don't like to brag, but very people have David Lee Roth stories as good as Rick's.  

October 10--Jeff Hoover birthday

=His former writing sidekick, Brendan Sullivan, told us a great story about a personal appearance they made together in the 1990s. It involves Nazis and Skokie. 

 

October 11, 2019—Rick appears on DestinationEatDrink podcast 

=On this episode, the discussion was about Rovinj.

October 12--Glenn Beckert birthday

=Rick's brush with the former Cubs second baseman makes this episode.  

October 12--Sam Moore birthday

=Rick's brush with Sam Moore, from the great soul duo Sam & Dave. 

October 12--Martie Maguire birthday

=The Dixie Chicks almost got the John Landecker show fired. 

October 12, 2011--Siri’s debut

=Hard to believe Siri has only been around for 13 years. We talked to the original voice of Siri, Susan Bennett

=We had Nick DiGilio on the show, and we discussed this gem of a film.  

April 22—Avengers Endgame premieres. 

=Bobby Holland Hanton was a stuntman in this film, and told us a few good stories about the making of one of the most successful box office movies in history.

April 22, 1932—Cubs vs. Reds at Wrigley. 

=Would you believe I have the audio of Pat Pieper stating the Cubs lineup from that day? Will we play it on this week's show?

April 23—Dan Frischman birthday

=One of the stars of Head of the Class was on our show a few years ago. 

April 23, 1999—The Movie Election premieres. 

=One of the stars of that film, Molly Hagan, was on the show a few years ago as well. 

April 23--Essra Mohawk birthday

=We knew her as one of the singers of Schoolhouse Rock, but discovered during the interview that she also was at Woodstock.  

April 23—Lee Miller birthday 

=The famous war correspondent's son Antony Penrose was on the show and told us one of the most memorable stories we've ever heard. It involves Hitler on the day of his suicide.  

April 23—John Oliver birthday.

=We've had two people on the show who have worked with John Oliver. Summer Crockett Moore and Josh Gondelman 

April 24--Richard M. Daley birthday

=I told the story of my brush with Mayor Daley in this episode of Minutia Men.

*January 3, 1998—Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me debuts. Dave and I had the opportunity to interview the voice of that fine NPR program, Bill Kurtis.

*January 3, 2012—Republican Iowa Caucuses were held. Among the candidates was the first openly gay man to run for President, Fred Karger. He told Dave and I that fascinating story. 

January 3—Birthday of Sir George Martin. I had the honor of interviewing the late Beatles producer back in 1996. We played the audio of that memorably embarrassing interview on this episode.

*January 5, 2021—Gabby’s Dollhouse debuts. If you have a little girl, you know that show. Dave and I chatted with the voice-over star, Sainty Nelson, who portrays the character Pillow Cat. 

*January 6 is Anthony Scaramucci's birthday. We interviewed him twice. The first time he was still in Trump's orbit. The second time he was not. See if you can tell a difference in his attitude. 

January 6, 1973—Schoolhouse Rock debuts on ABC. One of the singers from that series was Essra Mohawk. We chatted with her about five years ago and she has some great stories.  

And finally...this week in 1878, a frequent topic of discussion on Free Kicks, Everton F.C. was founded. Happy birthday/anniversary to the Blues in Liverpool.

*August 14 is David Crosby's birthday. We had comedian Mike Toomey on the show and he told us what it was like opening for Crosby, Stills & Nash. (Listen to the interview here)

*August 15, 1969 was the first day of the famous Woodstock Festival. Essra Mohawk was there and explained to us what it was like. (Full interview here)

*August 15 is playwright (and author) Vicki Quade's birthday. The woman is famous for nun-comedy, and we had her on the show to talk about it. (Listen to the interview here)

*August 16 is Elvis' death day. One of our former guests, Danny Bonaduce, starred in a movie with Elvis and told us that story. (Listen to the interview here)

*August 16, 1996, Brookfield Zoo gorilla Binti Jua saved a little boy who fell in her cage. I wrote a song about that (Binti You Are a Hero), and it was performed by Landecker & The Legends (AUDIO)

*August 16, 1999, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire debuted. Little Tommy Kaempfer (age 4) played a version of the game with his dad. (AUDIO)

*August 17, 1991, Ebony & Ivory debuted on the Loop. My co-host Stan Lawrence was on Minutia Men to discuss. (Listen to that interview here)

*August 17, 1999, Bill Clinton apologized to the nation for his affair. I wrote a song about it (He's the President) for Landecker & the Legends (AUDIO)

*August 18 is Breaking Bad actor Carmen Serano's birthday. We interviewed her about the experience of being on one of TV's most critically acclaimed shows. (Listen to that here)

*August 18 is Elayne Boosler's birthday. Poor Elayne has the misfortune of following the band Ed Zeppelin once at a Kevin Matthews Comedy Jam. Kevin was on our podcast and told that story. (Listen to full interview here)

*August 18 would have been Patrick Swayze's birthday. His good friend and co-writer Stacy Widelitz was on the show talking about the making of Dirty Dancing. (Listen to that here)

*August 19, 1969, Ken Holtzman tossed a no-hitter. In our EveryCubEver files we have the audio of his last out. (AUDIO)

*August 19 is Brendan Sullivan's birthday. We had him on the podcast and he told a great story about being sent out by radio management to potray a Nazi. (Full interview here)

*August 19 would have been Ginger Baker's birthday. We had fellow drummer Alan White (Yes) on the show, and he discussed his relationship with Ginger. (Full interview here)

*August 19 is National Photographers Day. We had a few great ones on the show over the years, including Mick Rock, John Filo, Antony Penrose, Barry Butler, and Fred Winston.
