September 8, 1921—Miss America pageant founded.

=We interviewed her married counterpart, Mrs. America.  

September 8, 1908—Lane Tech opens first year. 

=We've talked to graduate Carl Giammarese, and Liverpool's very own Roger Bennett, about the thing that people can't believe once happened at Lane Tech High School. Forced naked swimming. 

September 8, 1888—First game played at Anfield in Liverpool. 

=Another reminder that Free Kicks is back for another season.



 

September 9—Antony Penrose birthday

=We talked to the internationally famous photographer about several things including Pablo Picasso, who he personally knew.  

September 9, 2022

="Beatles in India" movie released. We talked to its writer/director Paul Saltzman.




September 10—World Suicide Prevention day

=We somehow had a fun interview with author Meg Kissinger about this all-too serious topic. One of our greatest accomplishments.  

September 10, 2011—“Hick” released

=We talked to one of the film's stars, Dave Vescio.  

September 10, 1905—Crystal Palace founded

=Another perfect time to remind you that Free Kicks is back for a new season.


 

September 11, 2001

=Everyone has an answer to "where were you when the twin towers were hit?" But I have one that involves Eddie Munster, Butch Patrick. You read that right. Hear the story in this episode.  

September 11, 1999

=National Wrestling Hall of Fame opened. We talked to Vision Quest's Frank Jasper about his movie/wrestling career.

=Their drummer was future Yes drummer Alan White. He told us all about it )

June 9, 1954—Joseph Nye Welch made history when he chastised Senator Joe McCarthy during the McCarthy hearings. 

=His great-granddaughter, Amy Landecker, was on the show to talk about that and her thriving Hollywood career. . Amy story: 

 

June 10--Neil Steinberg birthday

=The Sun-Times columnist was a guest on this episode of Minutia Men.  

June 10, 1896—Congress authorizes federal penitentiary at Leavenworth. 

=Actor/Artist Dave Vescio was a guest on Minutia Celebrity Interview, and told us about serving time in that notorious prison.  

June 10, 1991—Final episode of Twin Peaks is released. 

=During the Bob Stroud interview, I revealed an embarrassing incident that happened to me while I was at Stroud's house watching that episode. 

June 10, 2022—Vintage Confidential by Duane Scott Cerny released.

=Duane is a character, and he told us some great stories from that book in this episode of the  show.  

 

June 11, 1986—Ferris Bueller opens

=Everybody from our generation loves that movie. Everybody that is, except for Nick Digilio & me. We both hate it, and bonded over that hate in this episode

June 11, 1952—Hank Sauer hits 3 HRs 

=We have the classic audio of that day. Will we play it this week?

June 11--Frank Beard birthday

=My ZZ Top story also includes the one ZZ Top member (Beard) who didn't actually have a beard.  


June 12, 1991—Bulls win first NBA title. 

=Chuck Swirsky was there, and told us all about it

June 12, 2018—Block Club Chicago founded.

=We talked to one of the founders, Shamus Toomey

June 12, 1972—Deep Throat released. 

=We never actually talked to anyone from that X-rated "classic" but we did interview adult film actress Maitland Ward. We never more thoroughly researched an interviewee. 

June 12, 1972—The famous Dick Allen Sports Illustrated cover released

=Chili Dog MVP author Dr. Fletcher explained the significance of that cover to us.  

June 13--Tim Allen birthday

=My brush with Tim Allen story is told in this episode of Minutia Men. 

June 13—Pigeon Appreciation Day. 

=We actually did an interview with a Chicago alderman about pigeon poop. It's in this episode of the show. 

 

June 14--Alan White birthday

=The late drummer of Yes was one of our favorite guests. You can listen to it here. He's watching the Price is Right in the background. (Yes): 

June 14, 2021—Minutia Men climbs to top 1% of world’s podcasts

=Just five years after our debut, we reached this still-hard-to-believe height.  

June 14--Lauren LoDiguice birthday

=Our favorite Melania Trump impersonator did this entire interview with us as Melania. 


June 15—Sam Giancana birthday 

=Mob Adjacent author Jeff Gentile actually knew him. It's part of this interview.  

June 15—Billy Williams birthday

=Author Fred Mitchell wrote a whole book about Billy, and tells us what the Hall of Famer is really like. (Spoiler alert: He's very nice) : 

June 15, 1988—Bull Durham released

=We have some classic audio from that film. Will we share it this week?

       Every week I send my Minutia Men Co-Host Dave Stern a list from our audio archives for this week's Studio Walls feature. These are the possibilities for this week. Which one will he choose?

*September 12, 1927, the Cubs broke the 1-million mark in attendance the first time. We had a man on our show who is attempting to collect one million baseball cards. (Full interview here)

*September 12, 1969, the Plastic Ono Band performed their first concert. Yes drummer Alan White was part of that band, and he told us the story of how that came to be. (Listen to it here)

*September 12, 1981, the Smurfs debuted on American television. We talked to the world's biggest smurf collector last year. For real. (Full interview here)

*September 13, 2016, my Cubs parody song collaborator Tom Latourette debuted his parody song about the eventual World Champion Cubs. The song is I'm Not Betting Against My Cubs. (Video is here)

*September 13 is Roger Bennett's birthday. We talked to the Men in Blazers star last year in one of our most popular episodes of the show. (Full interview here)

*September 14, 1949, the Lone Ranger debuted on television. Of course, it inspired the Rick and Dave written bit, The Lone Rogainger, which was played on the John Landecker show. (AUDIO)

*September 15 is Oliver Stone's birthday. We talked to the author of Midnight Express Billy Hayes about how crazy it was working with Stone on the screenplay for the Midnight Express movie. (Listen to it here)

*September 16, 1857, the song Jingle Bells was published. Johnny Kaempfer performed a ridiculously cute version of that song on the John Landecker show (AUDIO)

*September 16, 1993, the show Frasier debuted on NBC. We had one of the stars of the show, Dan Butler (Bulldog) on our show, and he told us all about it. (Full interview here)

*September 17 is Fee Waybill's birthday. The lead singer of the Tubes appeared on Minutia Men Celebrity Interview during the pandemic. (Listen to it here)

   Every week I send my Minutia Men Co-Host Dave Stern a list from our audio archives for this week's Studio Walls feature. These are the possibilities for this week. Which one will he choose?

*August 14 is David Crosby's birthday. We had comedian Mike Toomey on the show and he told us what it was like opening for Crosby, Stills & Nash. (Listen to the interview here)

*August 15, 1969 was the first day of the famous Woodstock Festival. Essra Mohawk was there and explained to us what it was like. (Full interview here)

*August 15 is playwright (and author) Vicki Quade's birthday. The woman is famous for nun-comedy, and we had her on the show to talk about it. (Listen to the interview here)

*August 16 is Elvis' death day. One of our former guests, Danny Bonaduce, starred in a movie with Elvis and told us that story. (Listen to the interview here)

*August 16, 1996, Brookfield Zoo gorilla Binti Jua saved a little boy who fell in her cage. I wrote a song about that (Binti You Are a Hero), and it was performed by Landecker & The Legends (AUDIO)

*August 16, 1999, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire debuted. Little Tommy Kaempfer (age 4) played a version of the game with his dad. (AUDIO)

*August 17, 1991, Ebony & Ivory debuted on the Loop. My co-host Stan Lawrence was on Minutia Men to discuss. (Listen to that interview here)

*August 17, 1999, Bill Clinton apologized to the nation for his affair. I wrote a song about it (He's the President) for Landecker & the Legends (AUDIO)

*August 18 is Breaking Bad actor Carmen Serano's birthday. We interviewed her about the experience of being on one of TV's most critically acclaimed shows. (Listen to that here)

*August 18 is Elayne Boosler's birthday. Poor Elayne has the misfortune of following the band Ed Zeppelin once at a Kevin Matthews Comedy Jam. Kevin was on our podcast and told that story. (Listen to full interview here)

*August 18 would have been Patrick Swayze's birthday. His good friend and co-writer Stacy Widelitz was on the show talking about the making of Dirty Dancing. (Listen to that here)

*August 19, 1969, Ken Holtzman tossed a no-hitter. In our EveryCubEver files we have the audio of his last out. (AUDIO)

*August 19 is Brendan Sullivan's birthday. We had him on the podcast and he told a great story about being sent out by radio management to potray a Nazi. (Full interview here)

*August 19 would have been Ginger Baker's birthday. We had fellow drummer Alan White (Yes) on the show, and he discussed his relationship with Ginger. (Full interview here)

*August 19 is National Photographers Day. We had a few great ones on the show over the years, including Mick Rock, John Filo, Antony Penrose, Barry Butler, and Fred Winston.

    Every week I send my Minutia Men Co-Host Dave Stern a list from our audio archives for this week's Studio Walls feature. These are the possibilities for this week. Which one will he choose?

*June 13 is Pigeon Appreciation Day. We once interviewed a Chicago alderman who didn't share that love of pigeons. He was more focused on the gigantic amount of poop they left behind. You can listen to that interview here.

*June 14 would have been Yes drummer Alan White's birthday. Alan passed away just a few weeks ago. We were lucky to interview him for our celebrity interview a few years ago. That interview is here.

*June 15, 1988, the movie Bull Durham opened nationally. We have the audio from one of that film's most iconic scenes. (AUDIO)

*June 18 would have been Roger Ebert's birthday. Our good friend Dane Placko has one of the most amusing Roger Ebert stories of all-time. He told it to us on our podcast a few years ago. Listen to that here.
