=It was one of the two times we were given that shot, filling in for Bob Sirott. A clip is still on the WLS site.  

August 11—Steve Wozniak birthday

=We spoke to one of his first investors in Apple, Ronald Wayne. 

August 11--Barry Butler birthday

=Maybe the best photographer of Chicago. We interviewed him about his methodology for getting those incredible shots.  

August 11--Chris Hemsworth birthday

=We've never spoken to the star of Thor, but we have spoken to his stuntman, Bobby Holland Hanton. 

 


August 12, 1994 Baseball goes on strike

=If it happened in the 90s, there must be a Landecker and the Legends parody song, right? Of course there is. It's called "Baseball Striking Again" and it's on the CD Landecker & The Legends, Volume 1.



August 13—Danny Bonaduce birthday.

=We've not only interviewed Danny himself (which you can hear here), but we've also interviewed one of his high school classmates, Tony DeFranco of the DeFranco Family. He has a great Danny story.  

August 13, 1978—Tom Skilling debuts on WGN-TV

=He told us all about those early days on Channel 9. It was a very different time. 

August 13, 1982—Fast Times at Ridgemont High debuts. 

=We interviewed the guy who played Damone, Rob Romanus. Very entertaining interview.  

 


August 14, 1874—Freeman Bernstein birthday 

=Who is Freeman Bernstein? He's the man who hustled Hitler. The author of the book Hustling Hitler told us all about it in this episode.  

August 14--David Crosby birthday

=Comedian Mike Toomey once opened for CSN, and told us what that experience was like. 


 

August 15, 1969—Original Woodstock

=We have spoken to someone who was supposed to perform there (Essra Mohawk), someone who wrote a book about it (Will Wagner) and someone who did the lights for the concert (Chip Monck)

August 15--Vicki Quade birthday

=The woman behind Late Night Catechism was a fun guest.

August 15--Jimmy Webb birthday

=I told my Jimmy Webb story on this episode of Minutia Men. It's unlike any other Jimmy Webb story you've ever heard. 

 


August 16--Emily Strayer birthday

=Emily is in the Dixie Chicks, and she has no idea about this, but the Dixie Chicks once nearly got me fired. I told the story in this episode. 

August 16—Tell a Joke Day

=Every episode of Minutia Men has at least one.

August 16, 1996—The gorilla Binti Jua saves a little boy at Brookfield Zoo.

=This happened in the 1990s, so obviously there's a Landecker and the Legends song about it, right? Right. It's on our third CD, "Baby Boomers" 

August 16, 1999—Who Wants to Be a Millionaire debuts. 

=Little Tommy Kaempfer played the game. He was 4. We have audio.

 


August 17—National honeybee day

=We talked to Coyote Peterson, who has been stung by virtually every kind of insect imaginable, including honeybees.  

August 17, 1999—President Clinton apologizes to country.

=Remember apologies? This one happened in the 90s, so yes, there is a Landecker & The Legends song. It appears on Landecker & The Legends, Volume 5.

August 17, 1991--Ebony & Ivory debuts on WLUP AM 1000

=Yes, I have every tape of every show. Unfortunately, they are on cassette. Here's a picture of us from that era...

=How many podcasts have had guests on live from Thailand? We did. Author Bill Paige was living in Thailand when he talked to us about his book Everything I Know I Learned From Rock Stars

June 23, 1993--John Wayne Bobbitt gets his penis cut off by his wife Lorena

=Yes, of course we wrote a song about that for Landecker and the Legends. I told that story in this episode of Minutia Men. If you want to read the lyrics, they are here.

June 23, 1995—Pocahontas released by Disney

=Yes, we wrote a song about that too. "The Polka-hontas Polka" was on Landecker & the Legends Volume II, and just might be heard again in a future episode of Minutia Men.


June 24, 1901—Brighton & Hove Albion founded 

=Just another reminder to listen to the Free Kicks podcast with Adam and Rick. Brighton & Hove Albion is mentioned quite frequently.

June 24—Dave Vescio birthday

=Dave is an actor and an artist and a memorable guest  on Minutia Men Celebrity Interview

June 24--Roger Badesch birthday

=We talked to the former newsman/political flak/teacher & author of The Unplanned Life on this episode of Minutia Men

 

June 25—Carly Simon birthday

=Record producer and engineer Bill Schnee told us a story about what it was like to work with her.  You can hear it on this episode of Minutia Men Celebrity Interview.

 

June 26—Vick’s Vapo Rub debuts 1905. 

=We did a radio ad for them when we owned our advertising agency. Would you like to hear it? It stars Dave. We'll play it on a future episode of the show.

June 26, 2023—Dick Biondi death

=I worked with Dick for ten years at WJMK, but only appeared on one show with him--when he was on Tony Lossano's podcast. Here's a photo from that day.



June 26, 1981—Stripes premieres 

=Did you know that Bill Murray and Harold Ramis were not the original choices for the lead characters in that film? Tommy Chong revealed to us that Cheech and Chong were offered the movie first.

June 26--Bobby Holland Hanton birthday

=The stuntman who has worked in virtually all of the Marvel films appeared on our show to explain the stunts. You can hear that here.

June 26—Eric Nelsen birthday

=The star of the Yellowstone prequel 1884 was a fun guest. Here he is on Minutia Men Celebrity Interview


June 27, 1994—Caning in Singapore

=The story of the American kid who was sentenced to caning in Singapore was the top story in the news here. Scott May told us a great story about how the Kevin Matthews show and the Danny Bonaduce show on the Loop helped celebrate the story.  Listen here.

June 27—Adam Howarth birthday

=Adam is my co-host on Free Kicks. Free Kicks returns at the end of August for the new Premier League season.

June 27—James Breakwell birthday

=The NY Times best selling author appeared on Minutia Men Celebrity Interview



June 28—Mel Brooks birthday

=Mel is 98 years old this week. We talked to actor Eric Allan Kramer (Little John in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights") about what it was like working with comedy's greatest legend. 

June 28--John Cusack birthday

=I told the story of my brush with John Cusack in  this episode of Minutia Men.

June 28, 1997—Mike Tyson bites Holyfield’s ear 

=Was it a huge story in the 1990s? You bet. Did Landecker & the Legends record a song about it? What do you think? It's on our fourth CD "Live Long and Perspire"

June 28, 1970—Gay Pride Day established

=It's expanded into a whole month now. We interviewed actor Dan Butler (Bulldog on Frasier) about his activism for the LBGT community in this episode of Minutia Men Celebrity Interview

=We had Nick DiGilio on the show, and we discussed this gem of a film.  


April 22—Avengers Endgame premieres. 

=Bobby Holland Hanton was a stuntman in this film, and told us a few good stories about the making of one of the most successful box office movies in history.

April 22, 1932—Cubs vs. Reds at Wrigley. 

=Would you believe I have the audio of Pat Pieper stating the Cubs lineup from that day? Will we play it on this week's show?


April 23—Dan Frischman birthday

=One of the stars of Head of the Class was on our show a few years ago. 

April 23, 1999—The Movie Election premieres. 

=One of the stars of that film, Molly Hagan, was on the show a few years ago as well. 

April 23--Essra Mohawk birthday

=We knew her as one of the singers of Schoolhouse Rock, but discovered during the interview that she also was at Woodstock.  

April 23—Lee Miller birthday 

=The famous war correspondent's son Antony Penrose was on the show and told us one of the most memorable stories we've ever heard. It involves Hitler on the day of his suicide.  

April 23—John Oliver birthday.

=We've had two people on the show who have worked with John Oliver. Summer Crockett Moore and Josh Gondelman 




April 24--Richard M. Daley birthday

=I told the story of my brush with Mayor Daley in this episode of Minutia Men.

Studio Walls

  Every week I send my Minutia Men Co-Host Dave Stern a list from our audio archives for this week's Studio Walls feature. These are the possibilities for this week. Which one will he choose?

*April 17, 2019, our old buddy (and Eckhartz Press author) Chet Coppock died. We had Mark Giangreco on the podcast, and he told us some great stories about things he learned from Chet. (Listen to the entire interview here)

*April 18, 1938, the first Superman comic book was released. We had comic book expert (and owner of that issue) Gary Moondog Colabuona to talk about that. (Full interview here)

*April 19 is World Poker Day. We had World Series of Poker winner Tristan Wade on the show in 2018 to talk about his poker career. (Listen to all of it here)

*April 19, 1982, 38 Special released the song "Caught Up in You". Rick jammed on that song with the writer of it, Jim Peterik, live in the studio. (Full interview is here)

*April 21st is Vince Argento's birthday. The voice of the Minutia Men podcast audio appeared on the show once, and brought along his greatest masterpiece. Psycho on Ice. (AUDIO)

*April 21, 1978, the movie I Wanna Hold Your Hand was released. Rick and Nick DiGilio talked about the greatness of that film during our interview with Nick (Full interview is here)

*April 22 is John Waters birthday. The avante guard film director did a promo for our advertising agency AMISH Chicago Advertising (AUDIO)

*April 22, 2019, the film Avengers Endgame was released. We talked to the man who did many of the stunts in that film, Bobby Holland Hanton. (Listen to the entire interview here)

*April 22, 1932, the Cubs faced the Reds at Wrigley Field. Pat Pieper was the PA Man, and we have the audio of him announcing the starting lineups. (AUDIO)

*April 23rd would have been Lee Miller's birthday. We talked to her son Anthony Penrose about his mother's incredible life, which included taking a bath in Adolf Hitler's bathtub on the day he killed himself. (Incredible interview here)
