Bob Shannon's "Legends" column in Radio & Records was a must read during the hey-day of that famous trade publication. That's when I first became acquainted with his writing. Of course, he was already a radio legend by that time. Bob was a big-time DJ in the 1960s and 1970s, even scoring the title of "Best DJ" in Dallas in the late 70s. He also worked for years at the legendary jingle shop TM Programming/TM Century as their senior VP.
Bob was the kind of guy in the radio business that when the caller ID said his name, you picked up the line. Luckily for us, the list of people who talked to him included many of the all-time great personalities in radio history. Those legends shared their stories with Bob, and he accumulated them to make up the pages of this truly memorable book.
Eckhartz Press is proud to release "Turn it Up: American Radio Tales 1946-1996" in e-book form for the very first time. It will be available beginning August 16th. Bob has gone back and updated the stories and added new material, including a brand new Foreword by Erica Farber, the president of the Radio Advertising Bureau. Among her observations, Erica notes: "In order to create the future, we need to understand the past. When it comes to radio, no one is navigating this better than Bob Shannon."
It's true. We'll share a few examples of that in the coming days.
